Shane looked deep in to my eyes and let out a
sigh, “How do you do it baby? How do you live through what you lived through
and still see hope? How is it that you can look at the world and see so much
and hope? And not only do you see hope but you spread it baby. You make me
believe that there is a better tomorrow and that the world isn’t just shit. You
are my light darlin.”
I couldn’t help the tear that fell down my
cheek. I know Shane thought I was his light but he was mine and he was the one
that showed me that the world can be a beautiful place. He is the one that
showed me what love is, he showed me a world that I didn’t think existed.
“You know more and do more than you think
Shane. You don’t even see how truly amazing and perfect you are.” I leaned over
and kissed him gently on the lips, forgetting about my banged-up face. I
flinched when Shane put his forehead on mine, I tried to hide it because I knew
he needed this closeness but he saw right through.
“Shit baby I’m sorry. Let me take a look.”
Shane inspected my face and made a growling sound from deep in his throat. His
eyes filled with so much anger, I could feel it coming off him in waves. I
placed my hands on his.

I really enjoyed this book. It is well written, smooth flowing and easy to read. The author does a great job portraying the characters, their emotions and the experiences they go through. Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. It kept me captivated from the first page through the last.
The main characters in this book are Macy and Shane. (If you have not read book 1, I recommend that you read it first to get a better understanding of the story). In book 1 Macy was abducted and tortured. Althought she had a long road to recovery, she is almost completely physically healed. She has a past, and it shows in her actions and in her expressions, but she hasn’t yet been ready to talk about it. She was a police office and now works as an FBI agent as part of a special Serial Killer Unit with Shane, Faith, Dawson. They still work with Travis and Steve as well.
Shane suffered a huge loss when his wife was killed by a hit and run driver. He suspected there was more to it, but nobody believed him. Now that he and Macy are together and he almost lost her once already, he is bound and determined to keep her safe.
Suddenly, the past meets the present. The same person who killed Shane’s wife Lisa is back and is on a mission. While the killings seem random, there is a reason for each and every person he targets. Will the team be able to catch this man before more bodies start piling up?
While in the middle of trying to catch one psycho, the realize that they have more on their full plate than they anticipated. Now they not only have to question can they catch the bad guys, but can they keep each other and all their loved ones safe?
This book is full of mystery, suspense, and romance. If they have learned anything it is that life is short. They must enjoy each moment that they have, because the next is not guaranteed. They might be dysfunctional, but they are family. And a family is supposed to offer support, strength and love, and that is exactly what they do for each other.

I loved the characters. Dawson was a small town golden boy. When he was a rookie he suffered a major loss. What's the point in being a cop if you can't protect those you love? He shut himself off from the world to catch the killer. A tragedy took him away from life, but will it take another to bring him home? Dawson is such a strong person. Although he has been detached for so long, deep in his heart he still cares. He will do whatever it takes to protect those he cares about.
Sam is amazing. She has been through so much, but has come out strong. She is fiercely loyal, caring, loving and all around sweetheart. Once she realizes what she wants, she goes after it full force and won't let anything get in her way. She has looked over her shoulder long enough, it's time to be happy.
The secondary characters are great. It's like having a large extended family in one room. While it's fun to tease and crack jokes, nobody will take it too far and will gladly lay their life down to protect anyone in the room.
The author did a good job with this story. She did a great job portraying the characters their emotions and the experiences they go through.
