"Liz Scott's stories are filled with gentle humor and an exquisite, endearing romance. It’s quite easy to get lost in You Promised Me Forever and forget to come up for air."—USA Today bestselling author Elizabeth Lennox

This review is from: You Promised Me Forever By

There are parts of the book I love and parts I hate. When we first meet the characters Nicole is 8 and Will is 10. We have a little back story on Nicole but nothing about Will. Nicole is an orphan being raised by her grandparents. She is expected to act and behave the same way her grandmother does. Children are to be seen but not heard, ladies don't get dirty, toys are not to be seen and so on. While walking in the backyard for her daily exercise, she meets the boy from next door. He thinks she talks funny and dresses weird, but they will be together forever.

There are large gaps in time through the book. Nicole goes to college and Will goes in the Marines. When Will is done with basic training, he proposed to Nicole. When he is done with his 4 year enlistment they are to be married. However, Will never shows up. After moping in bed for more than a year, she finds out she is going to be homeless if she doesn't pull her head out of the sand and do something with her life. After picking a random place on a map to start over, she ends up in nowhere Alaska.

Five years later, Will goes Nicole to win her back. Just as he gets close, he shuts down and pushes her away.

The characters need more development. The plot could definitely use work. The book needs another round of editing. It is hard to relate to the characters. I could not emotionally connect to the characters at all. The imagery paints some beautiful scenes with an Alaskan background.

I don't mean to come across as if I am bashing the author. I am just expressing what I did or did not like about the book. For those who like coming of age books and second chance books may like this book.
